Eliud

Exile Tribe of Judah · G1664
New Testament

Eliud was an ancestor of Jesus Christ, mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew.

Eliud appears in the genealogy of Jesus Christ in Matthew 1:14–15 as the son of Achim and the father of Eleazar, placing him in the post-exilic generation descending from the royal line of David through Zerubbabel. He lived during the period of Exile and Return and is otherwise unknown outside this genealogical record. His inclusion in Matthew's genealogy underscores the evangelist's concern to trace Jesus' legal Davidic descent through Joseph.
