Old Testament

Jehosheba, also known as Jehoshabeath, was the daughter of King Jehoram and the wife of Jehoiada the priest; she saved the infant Joash from Athaliah's massacre of the royal family.

Jehosheba (also called Jehoshabeath in 2 Chronicles 22:11) was the daughter of King Jehoram of Judah and the wife of the high priest Jehoiada. When Queen Athaliah seized the throne and ordered the slaughter of all the royal heirs, Jehosheba heroically hid her infant nephew Joash in the temple for six years, preserving the Davidic line from extinction (2 Kings 11:2–3). Her courageous act of preserving the heir to the throne ultimately led to Athaliah's overthrow and the restoration of Davidic rule under Joash (2 Kings 11:4–20). Jehosheba is thus a pivotal figure in the preservation of the messianic lineage through the most dangerous crisis faced by the dynasty of David.
