Uz

Patriarchs (Abraham–Joseph) Early Patriarch · H5780G
Old Testament

Uz, son of Aram and grandson of Shem, was an early Semitic patriarch.

Uz was a son of Aram and grandson of Shem, listed in the Table of Nations in Genesis 10:23 and 1 Chronicles 1:17 as a progenitor of an Aramean people group. A second Uz appears in Genesis 22:21 as a firstborn son of Nahor, Abraham's brother. The land of Uz is most famous as the home of the patriarch Job (Job 1:1), and prophetic texts associate it with Edom or the Transjordanian region (Jeremiah 25:20; Lamentations 4:21), though its precise location remains debated.
