Old Testament

Zebul was the governor of Shechem who served under Abimelech, the son of Gideon, during his reign as king.

Zebul was the governor of Shechem, appointed by Abimelech the son of Gideon during Abimelech's short-lived kingship over Israel (Judges 9:28–41). When Gaal son of Ebed stirred up sedition in Shechem against Abimelech, Zebul remained loyal and secretly warned Abimelech, enabling him to crush the revolt. Zebul taunted Gaal when the latter's forces proved no match for Abimelech's army and expelled him and his brothers from the city.
