Hegai was a eunuch in charge of King Ahasuerus' harem, responsible for preparing Esther for her night with the king.
Hegai was the eunuch appointed by King Ahasuerus to oversee the harem of women gathered for the royal beauty contest that would determine Vashti's successor (Esther 2:3, 8, 15). He took special notice of Esther and provided her with the best cosmetics, special food, seven maids, and the best quarters in the harem—a preferential treatment that contributed to Esther's winning the king's favor. His discerning judgment of character and his kindness to Esther made him an unwitting instrument in God's providential plan for the Jewish people.
