New Testament

Hermogenes was one of the believers in Asia who deserted Paul during his imprisonment.

Hermogenes is mentioned in Paul's second letter to Timothy as one of the believers in the province of Asia who turned away from the apostle during his imprisonment (2 Timothy 1:15). His desertion is grouped with that of Phygelus, forming a painful contrast with the loyalty of Onesiphorus, whom Paul commends in the same passage. Hermogenes serves as a cautionary example of those who fail to stand firm in solidarity with persecuted leaders of the faith.
