Jered

Divided Kingdom Tribe of Judah(?) · H3382H
Old Testament

Jered was the son of Mered and the father (ie founder) of Gedor, as recorded in the genealogy of Judah in 1 Chronicles.

Jered was a son of Mered and Jehudijah from the tribe of Judah, listed in 1 Chronicles 4:18 as the founder (or 'father') of Gedor, a town in the Judean hill country. The term 'father of Gedor' indicates that Jered was the founder or leading inhabitant of this settlement. Gedor appears elsewhere in the Old Testament as a town associated with various Benjamites (1 Chronicles 8:31; 9:37) and as a place to which Simeonite clans expanded during Hezekiah's reign (1 Chronicles 4:39).
