New Testament

Manaen, a prophet and teacher, was part of the church at Antioch.

Manaen was a prophet and teacher in the church at Antioch, one of five leaders named in Acts 13:1 who sent out Paul and Barnabas on the first missionary journey. He is notably described as a 'member of the court of Herod the tetrarch'—that is, a childhood companion or foster-brother of Herod Antipas, the ruler who beheaded John the Baptist. His background in the Herodian court yet his identification with the early Christian mission represents one of the more striking social contrasts in the Acts narrative.
