Mered

Divided Kingdom Tribe of Judah(?) · H4778
Old Testament

Mered, a son of Ezrah, married Bithiah, the daughter of Pharaoh.

Mered was a son of Ezrah and a descendant of Judah who married Bithiah (Bitiah) daughter of Pharaoh, one of the very few Israelites recorded as marrying into the Egyptian royal family (1 Chronicles 4:17–18). His marriage to Pharaoh's daughter is particularly striking given the patriarchal association of Egypt with bondage, and the union bore several children whose names are preserved in the genealogy. He also had a Judahite wife named Jehudijah who bore him additional sons including Jered, Heber, and Jekuthiel, associated with the founding of Gedor, Socho, and Zanoah.
