New Testament

Nereus was a Christian in Rome to whom Paul sent greetings in his letter to the Romans.

Nereus was a Christian in Rome to whom Paul sent greetings alongside his sister and Olympas and 'all the saints who are with them' (Romans 16:15). The pairing with his unnamed sister suggests they were members of the same household church. Some early Christian tradition associated Nereus with a Nereus who was martyred with Achilleus and buried on the Appian Way in Rome, though the identification is uncertain. He appears only in this single greeting.
