New Testament

Parthians, one of the people groups present in Jerusalem at Pentecost.

The Parthians were among the Jewish diaspora communities present in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost who heard the disciples speaking in their own languages (Acts 2:9). Parthia was the empire that succeeded the Seleucid kingdom in the region of modern Iran and controlled territory from Mesopotamia to India from the third century BC to the third century AD. A substantial Jewish population lived within Parthian territory, descended from exiles deported by the Assyrians and Babylonians.
