Old Testament

Pinon, one of the chiefs of Edom, descended from Esau, mentioned in the genealogies of Genesis and 1 Chronicles.

Pinon was one of the chiefs (Hebrew: 'alluf') of Edom, listed in the catalogue of Edomite clan leaders that concludes the genealogical records of Esau in Genesis 36:41 and 1 Chronicles 1:52. The Edomite chiefs in this list represent the tribal and territorial administration of Edom in the settlement period in the Seir highlands southeast of the Dead Sea. Pinon may be connected with Punon (Numbers 33:42–43), a site in the Wadi Araba known for its copper mining in antiquity.
