Old Testament

Samson was an Israelite judge known for his God-given strength, which he used to fight against the Philistines.

Samson was an Israelite judge from the tribe of Dan whose birth was announced by an angel to his previously barren mother (Judges 13), and who was consecrated as a Nazirite from the womb. Endowed with supernatural strength through the Spirit of the LORD, he inflicted great damage upon the Philistines throughout his turbulent life, culminating in his spectacular death when he pulled down the temple of Dagon upon its assembled worshipers (Judges 16:28–30). His story of faith, failure, and final triumph is celebrated in Hebrews 11:32 as an example of faith operative even through deeply flawed human vessels.
