Tabitha, also called Dorcas, was a beloved disciple in Joppa known for her charitable works, whom Peter raised from the dead.
Tabitha, whose Greek name was Dorcas, was a devoted disciple living in Joppa who was renowned for her charitable works and her craft of making garments for widows (Acts 9:36–42). When she died, the local believers sent urgently for the apostle Peter, who came and raised her from the dead — an event that caused many in Joppa to believe in the Lord. She stands as a notable example in Acts of a woman whose ministry of practical compassion was deemed worthy of miraculous divine intervention.
