Entrances that symbolize access, opportunity, and judgment. Jesus declared, 'I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved' (John 10:9) and 'I am the door' (John 10:7, KJV). Matthew 7:13-14 contrasts the wide gate leading to destruction with the narrow gate leading to life. City gates were places of judgment and public business (Ruth 4:1, Proverbs 31:23). Jesus promised, 'The gates of Hades will not overcome' the church (Matthew 16:18). Revelation 3:20 portrays Christ at the door: 'I stand at the door and knock.' The New Jerusalem has twelve gates, 'never shut' (Revelation 21:25), representing eternal access to God's presence.
