The vocal and physical celebration of God's greatness, goodness, and mighty works. The Hebrew word hallelu-Yah ('praise the Lord') appears throughout the psalms. Psalm 150 calls for praise with trumpet, harp, tambourine, dancing, strings, pipe, and cymbals. Hebrews 13:15 urges a 'sacrifice of praise — the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.' Paul and Silas sang praises in prison (Acts 16:25). Praise is not dependent on circumstances; it is a declaration of God's worth regardless of what we face. Revelation 4-5 portrays praise as the eternal occupation of heaven — all creation joining in worship.
