1 Thessalonians 4:14
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

Study Note
'For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him' — the resurrection of believers is logically anchored in and strictly parallel to the resurrection of Jesus: the same 'if' and 'even so' make Christian hope structurally dependent on the historical Easter event. The phrase 'sleep in Jesus' (koimēthentas dia Iēsou) distinguishes Christian death-as-sleep from mere unconsciousness by grounding it in union with the one through whose death sleep becomes the interval before resurrection. The verse has been central in debates about intermediate state, soul sleep, and the timing of resurrection, and remains the New Testament's most direct causal link between the resurrection of Jesus and the resurrection of the dead.
