Sharai

Exile > · H8298
Old Testament

Sharai was one of the Israelites who had married a foreign woman and agreed to divorce her as part of Ezra's religious reforms.

Sharai was among the Israelite men who had married foreign wives during the exile and is listed in Ezra 10:40 among those of the descendants of Bani who dissolved these marriages in compliance with Ezra's reform. His inclusion in the register reflects the scope of the post-exilic community's effort to maintain distinctiveness through endogamy.
