Proverbs and Wisdom
The biblical wisdom tradition that teaches practical skill for living in God's world. The book of Proverbs, largely attributed to Solomon (Proverbs 1:1), is the primary repository. Its foundation: 'The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge' (1:7). Wisdom is personified as a woman calling in the streets (Proverbs 8), inviting all to learn. Proverbial wisdom addresses work, speech, relationships, money, anger, and character. James 1:5 promises, 'If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all.' Wisdom in Scripture is not abstract philosophy but the art of living rightly before God in everyday situations.
