Teaching Ministry

The calling to instruct others in God's Word, a gift to the church (Ephesians 4:11) and a mark of spiritual maturity. Jesus' primary public activity was teaching: 'He went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues' (Matthew 4:23). The early church devoted itself to 'the apostles' teaching' (Acts 2:42). Paul instructed Timothy: 'The things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others' (2 Timothy 2:2). Colossians 3:16 calls believers to 'teach and admonish one another with all wisdom.' Hebrews 5:12 rebukes those who by now 'ought to be teachers' but still need elementary instruction.
