Trees
Rich symbols of life, wisdom, and spiritual vitality throughout Scripture. The tree of life stood in Eden (Genesis 2:9) and reappears in the new creation (Revelation 22:2). The tree of knowledge of good and evil tested human obedience (Genesis 2:17). Psalm 1:3 likens the righteous person to 'a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season.' Jeremiah 17:7-8 uses the same image. Jesus cursed a fruitless fig tree as a parable of judgment (Mark 11:12-14, 20-21). The cross itself is called a tree (Acts 5:30, Galatians 3:13, 1 Peter 2:24). Jesus taught that 'a good tree cannot bear bad fruit' (Matthew 7:18).
