Wedding
The celebration of marriage, a joyful event that Jesus honored by attending and performing his first miracle at the wedding in Cana (John 2:1-11). Old Testament weddings involved feasting, music, and community celebration lasting up to seven days (Judges 14:12). Jesus used wedding imagery in his parables (Matthew 22:1-14, 25:1-13) and the kingdom of God is pictured as a wedding banquet. Revelation 19:7-9 portrays the ultimate wedding: 'The wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.' Marriage reflects the covenant relationship between Christ and his church (Ephesians 5:31-32).
