Study Note

The celestial courtroom vision — a fiery stream before the Ancient of Days, ten thousand times ten thousand ministering angels, and the books opened — is one of the most elaborate theophanic scenes in the Hebrew Bible. The imagery of standing attendants and opened judgment books (sefarim) enters Jewish apocalyptic literature and shapes New Testament visions directly: Revelation 4–5 and 20:12 both draw on this passage, and Jesus's description of the Son of Man coming in glory with holy angels (Matthew 25:31) echoes verses 13–14. The emphasis on numberless angelic attendants stresses that divine justice is not a private transaction but a cosmic, witnessed event.
