Old Testament

Mamre's father, an Amorite, was an ally of Abraham during the battle against Chedorlaomer.

The father of Mamre the Amorite, an ally and near-neighbor of Abraham at Hebron, is not named in the biblical text (Genesis 14:13, 24). Mamre's brothers Eshcol and Aner also allied with Abraham in the pursuit and defeat of the four kings who had taken Lot captive. The grove of trees at Mamre became the traditional site associated with Abraham's encampments in the Hebron area, and the name survived as a geographical designation throughout the biblical period (Genesis 18:1; 23:17–19; 35:27).
