Study Note
The doxological climax of Romans 9-11 — 'for of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen' — presents a trinitarian-shaped summary of divine sovereignty. The three prepositions (of/from, through, to/unto) are the Stoic cosmological formula applied to Zeus as source, sustainer, and end — Paul appropriates and transforms it, applying it to Israel's God revealed in Jesus Christ. The doxology follows Paul's exposition of God's inscrutable wisdom in the mystery of Jewish rejection and Gentile inclusion (11:33-35), making praise the appropriate response to what cannot be fully understood. 1 Corinthians 8:6 ('from whom are all things and for whom we exist') provides a closely parallel formulation in a different polemical context.
