Study Note
'Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages' — the doxology of Romans 16:25–27 closes the epistle with a cosmic perspective on the gospel as the unveiling of a pre-temporal divine secret. The 'mystery' (mystērion) hidden through long ages and now disclosed echoes the apocalyptic use of the term in Daniel and in Colossians 1:26–27, where the mystery is identified as 'Christ in you, the hope of glory.' The disclosure 'through the prophetic writings' and the goal of 'the obedience of faith' among all nations (verse 26) places the gospel in continuity with the Hebrew prophetic tradition while extending its scope to all peoples. The doxology grounds Christian proclamation in an eternal divine purpose, giving the evangelistic task a transcendent rather than merely institutional rationale.
