Kreuz
The Roman instrument of execution that became the central symbol of Christianity. Jesus was crucified on a cross outside Jerusalem (Matthew 27:32-56), transforming a symbol of shame into one of salvation. Paul declared, 'May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ' (Galatians 6:14) and preached 'Christ crucified' as 'the power of God and the wisdom of God' (1 Corinthians 1:23-24). Colossians 2:14 describes God 'nailing it to the cross,' canceling our debt. Hebrews 12:2 says Jesus 'endured the cross, scorning its shame.' Jesus calls followers to take up their cross daily (Luke 9:23). The cross represents substitutionary death, self-denial, and the paradox of power through weakness.
