Perle
A precious gem that Jesus used to illustrate the supreme value of the kingdom of God. In Matthew 13:45-46, 'the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.' The parable teaches that the kingdom is worth any sacrifice to obtain. Matthew 7:6 warns, 'Do not throw your pearls to pigs' — a metaphor for offering sacred things to those who cannot appreciate them. Revelation 21:21 describes the gates of the New Jerusalem as twelve enormous pearls, each gate formed from a single pearl, symbolizing the beauty and preciousness of entrance into God's eternal city.
