Sonne und Mond

The two great lights created by God to rule the day and night (Genesis 1:16). Joshua commanded the sun to stand still (Joshua 10:12-14). The sun turned dark at Jesus' crucifixion (Luke 23:44-45). Malachi 4:2 prophesied the 'sun of righteousness' rising with healing. Psalm 19:4-6 compares the sun to a bridegroom and a champion. Joel 2:31 prophesied the sun turning to darkness before the Day of the Lord. Psalm 121:6 promises protection: 'The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.' Revelation 21:23 envisions the new creation needing no sun or moon because God's glory illuminates it. These luminaries display God's faithful ordering of creation.
