Isaías 35:4
Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.

Study Note
'Say to those who have an anxious heart: Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you' — the announcement of divine coming introduces the miracles of healing that follow (blind see, deaf hear, lame leap, mute sing, verses 5–6). Jesus's answer to John the Baptist's question — 'Are you the one who is to come?' (Matthew 11:4–5) — echoes precisely this passage, identifying his healings as the expected signs of the eschatological divine arrival. The pairing of 'vengeance' and 'save' in a single verse reflects the Hebrew conception of divine justice as simultaneously punishing oppressors and vindicating the oppressed — God's 'vengeance' is redemptive. Isaiah 35 functions as the eschatological horizon for all the preceding oracles of judgment, revealing their ultimate telos as salvation.
