Persistent, careful effort in work and duty. Proverbs extensively commends diligence: 'The hand of the diligent will rule' (12:24), 'Diligent hands bring wealth' (10:4), 'The plans of the diligent lead to profit' (21:5). Colossians 3:23 instructs, 'Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.' Second Peter 1:5 urges believers to 'make every effort' to add to their faith. Hebrews 6:11 desires that 'each of you show this same diligence to the very end.' Ecclesiastes 9:10 counsels, 'Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.' Diligence honors God through faithful effort.
