Abraham
A journey to a sacred place, especially Jerusalem for the three annual pilgrimage festivals (Deuteronomy 16:16). The Songs of Ascents (Psalms 120-134) were sung by pilgrims traveling up to Jerusalem. Psalm 122:1 captures the joy: 'I rejoiced with those who said to me, "Let us go to the house of the Lord."' Jesus' family made annual pilgrimages for Passover (Luke 2:41). Beyond physical journeys, Scripture portrays the entire life of faith as a pilgrimage: Abraham was 'looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God' (Hebrews 11:10). Believers are 'foreigners and strangers on earth' (Hebrews 11:13).
