Set
The seventh day of rest ordained by God at creation and codified in the fourth commandment. Genesis 2:2-3 records God resting on the seventh day and making it holy. Exodus 20:8-11 commands, 'Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.' Sabbath was a sign of the covenant between God and Israel (Exodus 31:13-17). Jesus declared himself 'Lord of the Sabbath' (Mark 2:28) and demonstrated that Sabbath was made for people, not people for the Sabbath (Mark 2:27). Hebrews 4:9-10 speaks of a spiritual 'Sabbath-rest' that remains for the people of God, pointing to the ultimate rest in Christ.
