Study Note

Peter's proclamation that 'the God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus' frames the resurrection as the climactic act of Israel's covenant God, not a deviation from Jewish monotheism but its ultimate expression. The divine self-identification with the patriarchs (Exodus 3:6) grounds the Jesus event in the oldest covenant framework, asserting that the God of Pentecost and resurrection is continuous with the God of the burning bush. The contrast between the crowd's denial of Jesus and God's glorification (the same word, doxazō, used in John's gospel for crucifixion as glory) sets up the classic Lukan apologia: human rejection and divine vindication are the two poles of the resurrection kerygma. Jesus's own use of Exodus 3:6 in Mark 12:26-27 to defend resurrection is likely the source of Peter's formulation here.
