Daniel 9:27
And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Daniel 9:27 introduces the figure who 'shall confirm the covenant with many for one week' and 'cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease in the midst of the week' — one of the most contested eschatological texts in both Jewish and Christian interpretation. Historically, many scholars identify the seventieth week with the desecration of the Temple by Antiochus IV Epiphanes (167 BCE), including the cessation of daily sacrifice and the 'abomination of desolation' (verse 27b). Christian futurist exegesis, following Jerome and later dispensationalism, reads the seventieth week as a yet-future seven-year period of tribulation separated by a 'gap' from the preceding sixty-nine weeks. Jesus's citation of 'the abomination of desolation' (Matthew 24:15) links this verse to the Olivet Discourse, making it a fulcrum for New Testament eschatology.
