Philologus, a Christian in Rome to whom Paul sent greetings in his letter to the Romans.
Philologus was a Christian in Rome to whom Paul sent greetings alongside Julia—likely his wife or sister—and Nereus, his sister, and Olympas, and 'all the saints who are with them' (Romans 16:15). They appear to have constituted a household church. His Greek name, meaning 'lover of words' or 'studious,' was common in the Roman world among slaves, freedmen, and educated persons. He appears only in this single greeting.
