Romains 13:14
But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Study Note
'Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires' — the 'clothing' metaphor (endusasthe) echoes the baptismal putting-on of Christ (Galatians 3:27) and is famously linked to Augustine's conversion account in his Confessions (8.12.29). The command to 'put on Christ' implies that Christian identity is not merely informational but a habitual practice of deliberate self-presentation in conformity with Christ's character. The verse concludes Romans 13's section on governing authorities and neighbor love by providing the ultimate positive motivation for ethical conduct — not fear of punishment but identification with Christ. The negative counterpart 'make no provision for the flesh' uses the word pronoia (forethought, provision) to describe the deliberate pre-planning that enables sinful desire — Paul identifies premeditation as the danger.
