Intercession
The act of praying on behalf of others, standing in the gap between God and those in need. Abraham interceded for Sodom (Genesis 18:22-33). Moses interceded for Israel after the golden calf (Exodus 32:11-14). Samuel declared, 'Far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you' (1 Samuel 12:23). Paul urged intercession 'for all people — for kings and all those in authority' (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Jesus is the supreme intercessor, who 'always lives to intercede' for believers (Hebrews 7:25). The Holy Spirit also intercedes 'with wordless groans' (Romans 8:26-27).
