Lying
Deliberate deception in speech, directly contrary to God's truthful nature. The ninth commandment forbids bearing false witness (Exodus 20:16). Proverbs 6:16-19 lists 'a lying tongue' and 'a false witness' among things the Lord hates. Colossians 3:9 commands, 'Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices.' Ananias and Sapphira's lie to the Holy Spirit resulted in their deaths (Acts 5:1-11). Revelation 21:8 includes 'all liars' among those facing the second death. In contrast, God 'does not lie' (Titus 1:2, Hebrews 6:18), and the devil is called 'the father of lies' (John 8:44).
