Offering
Gifts presented to God beyond the tithe, expressing devotion, gratitude, or consecration. The Old Testament describes various offerings: burnt offerings (Leviticus 1), grain offerings (Leviticus 2), fellowship offerings (Leviticus 3), sin offerings (Leviticus 4), and guilt offerings (Leviticus 5). David declared, 'I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing' (2 Samuel 24:24). The widow's two small coins were praised by Jesus because she 'put in everything — all she had to live on' (Mark 12:44). Paul called the Philippians' gift 'a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God' (Philippians 4:18).
