Stealing
Taking what belongs to another, prohibited by the eighth commandment (Exodus 20:15). Beyond simple theft, Scripture addresses various forms: fraudulent wages (James 5:4), dishonest business practices (Proverbs 11:1), robbing God of tithes (Malachi 3:8), and even robbing people of their dignity. Ephesians 4:28 provides the transformative alternative: 'Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.' Zacchaeus' repentance included restoring fourfold what he had taken (Luke 19:8). True conversion reshapes one's relationship with possessions.
