'And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.' The Abrahamic covenant's central formula — 'I will be their God' — is declared everlasting and extended through generations, establishing the relational backbone of the entire Bible. Galatians 3:29 applies it to those who belong to Christ: 'if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.' The covenant formula 'I will be your God and you shall be my people' recurs from Exodus 6:7 through Jeremiah 31:33 to Revelation 21:3 — the story of Scripture is the story of God keeping this promise.
