And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.

Study Note
The vision of 'an highway... and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness' on which 'the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein' democratises access to God's eschatological path — even the simple will not get lost on this road. Isaiah 35's paradise language (blind eyes opened, deaf ears unstopped, desert blossoming) anticipates Jesus's response to the Baptist in Matthew 11:5, suggesting the miracles of Jesus are the initial fulfilment of the Highway of Holiness vision. The contrast with the dangerous, blocked roads of the present order (verse 9's absence of lions and ravenous beasts) reflects the ancient reality of highway robbers and wild animals that made travel hazardous. John 14:6's self-description ('I am the way') may draw on this Isaianic highway tradition, identifying Jesus as the embodiment of the eschatological road to God.
