Study Note
'But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?' The divine verdict in the Parable of the Rich Fool names as 'fool' (aphrōn) not incompetence but the failure to reckon with mortality and divine claim — the same fool of Psalm 14:1 who 'hath said in his heart, There is no God.' The question 'whose shall those things be?' anticipates Ecclesiastes' 'to the man that shall come after him' theme and illustrates Jesus's point in verse 21: accumulating wealth without being 'rich toward God' is the fundamental misallocation of a finite life.
