Study Note
The Markan version of the Great Commission — 'go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation' — is found in the 'longer ending' of Mark (16:9-20), whose textual authenticity is disputed among scholars. The scope 'all creation' (pase te ktisei) is broader even than Matthew's 'all nations,' potentially including the non-human created order. Despite textual questions, the verse has been enormously influential in missionary history and theology, often cited alongside Matthew 28:19 as the biblical mandate for global evangelization. The passage's signs following belief (verse 17-18) have been particularly significant in Pentecostal and charismatic traditions.
