Antipas, described as Christ's faithful witness, was martyred in Pergamum, where Satan's throne was said to be.
Antipas is described in the letter to the church at Pergamum as 'my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city—where Satan lives' (Revelation 2:13). He is the only individual martyr named in the book of Revelation, and the title 'faithful witness' (Greek: pistos martus) given to him echoes the same title applied to Jesus himself (Revelation 1:5; 3:14). Pergamum was the seat of the Roman provincial government and the center of the imperial cult in Asia Minor, and Antipas's refusal to compromise his faith there cost him his life. Early Christian tradition describes his martyrdom, though the historical details are uncertain.
