ים
The branch of theology devoted to the person and work of Jesus Christ. Scripture presents Christ as fully divine (John 1:1, Colossians 2:9) and fully human (Hebrews 2:14-17), two natures united in one person. Christological study encompasses his pre-existence (John 17:5), virgin birth (Matthew 1:23), sinless life (Hebrews 4:15), atoning death (Romans 5:8), bodily resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:3-8), ascension (Acts 1:9), heavenly intercession (Hebrews 7:25), and promised return (Acts 1:11). The early church councils of Nicaea and Chalcedon clarified orthodox Christology against various heresies.
