Melchizedek
The mysterious king of Salem and priest of God Most High who blessed Abraham and received his tithe (Genesis 14:18-20). Psalm 110:4 prophesied a priestly order 'in the order of Melchizedek.' Hebrews 5-7 develops Melchizedek as a type of Christ — a priest-king whose priesthood is superior to the Levitical order. Without recorded genealogy, beginning, or end, Melchizedek 'resembles the Son of God' (Hebrews 7:3). His priesthood precedes and surpasses Aaron's. Christ's priesthood after Melchizedek's order is permanent, effective, and requires no succession. The passage demonstrates Scripture's remarkable typological unity, spanning from Genesis to Hebrews.
