Ministers appointed to serve in the tabernacle and temple, mediating between God and the people through sacrifices and rituals. God designated Aaron and his descendants as priests (Exodus 28:1), and the entire tribe of Levi served supporting roles. The high priest alone could enter the Holy of Holies on the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16). Hebrews presents Jesus as the ultimate high priest 'in the order of Melchizedek' (Hebrews 5:6), who offered himself as the final sacrifice. First Peter 2:9 declares all believers a 'royal priesthood,' with direct access to God through Christ (Hebrews 10:19-22).
