Shame
A painful awareness of dishonor or inadequacy that affects one's sense of identity. After the fall, Adam and Eve 'realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together' (Genesis 3:7) — shame's first appearance. Psalm 34:5 promises, 'Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.' Romans 10:11 assures, 'Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.' Isaiah 61:7 prophesies double honor for shame. Jesus 'endured the cross, scorning its shame' (Hebrews 12:2) to free believers from shame's power. The gospel addresses shame at its root — restoring identity and dignity through God's unconditional acceptance in Christ.
